Beautifully designed to be traditional yet modern, the Sporthotel Exclusive is a cosy retreat after a day on the slopes. The family-run hotel is owned by Barbara and Roman who go out of their way to personally take care of their guests, and have heaps of local knowledge to share.
In addition to the indoor pool, there are lovely wellness facilities offering a selection of treatments such as massages, wellness baths and hay baths as well as a hot tub and a fitness room. The hotel has a range of modern, alpine-style rooms and suites, all with excellent facilities. Dinner is prepared with fresh, local ingredients offering traditional Italian cuisine as well as gluten-free options when required.
Off the radar for most, Kronplatz is a firm favourite for Italy’s ski team because of the fast lifts and beautifully groomed pistes. The ski area covers just one mountain, and all the lifts meet at the top. Around the summit, you’ve got wide, gentle blues that are perfect for warming up the legs. And the wooded slopes lower down are where you’ll find the steepest terrain. Link them both together, and you’ll get runs up to 10km long – enough to challenge the strongest thighs.
The resort itself is made up of two main villages on opposite sides of the Kronplatz peak, and San Viglio is the one where you’ll be staying. It’s a peaceful spot, sitting snug against the south side of the mountain and dotted with wood-balconied chalets. Traditional family-run hotels are the norm, and after a day on the slopes, you can look forward to savouring lots of local Ladin dishes, from dumplings to Schlutzkrapfen – a kind of jumbo-sized, semi-circular ravioli.
