Bulgaria is unbelievable value for money so it is an ideal for budding skiers and boarders cutting their teeth. Beginners and early intermediates will love the fun and relaxed atmosphere with jolly apres ski and superb tuition. The cheap booze is a big pull for the younger crowd look apres ski as much as they are looking for skiing. In truth the accommodation has been dreary and grey with dreary food but things have and are changing. Bansko has been the market leader for the better 4 and 5 star accommodation but Borovets and Pamporovo have better hotels now too. Whereas before the 4 star accommodations were like airport shopping mall functional hotels now we have proper upmarket hotel brands such as Kempinski entering the fray. The snow record can be erratic at the extremities of the season, however, snowmaking has vastly improved things and the lift systems that were once archaic are now far better and more reliable.
