Borovets Ski Holiday Resort

Overview

Set amongst the pine forests of the Rila Mountains, Borovets really is in a picturesque setting but the resort is an architectural mixture of drab 70s mega hotels, with small wooden shacks, and newer and more aesthetically pleasing construction. Where once the resort was famed for powercuts and the lifts failing it now runs far more smoothly with a more professional approach.

The skiing ranges from resort level of 1300m to a maximum height of 2550m, covering 58km of piste. In truth there are two seperate ski areas adjoined at resort level.  The skiing is well suited to beginners and intermediates that don’t feel the need to cover huge daily mileages. Beginners will soon progress under the guidance of the highly praised local ski school. Experts should go elsewhere in truth.

Offslope/apres ski

Nightlife in Borovets is big, there is a huge amount of bars from sophisticated hotel bars to small wooden shacks. Apres is very inexpensive and swings into the small hours. There is not a great deal to do for the non-skier although some of the hotels do offer some very good spa facilities. There is a wide choice of cafes bars and shops. sofia is only 70km away and well worth a day visit is the weather is poor.

Overview

Good for the early intermediate on a budget, lift passes, ski hire and tuition are excellent value for money.
