For those skiers out there who love to ski, and perhaps love to après ski too, but aren’t so fussed about bustling hotels and noisy rooms, you’ll be interested to hear about our Chalet of the week, Chalet Zebra in Meribel, France.
Chalet Zebra
A wonderful little chalet, Chalet Zebra is a lovely little hideaway for families, a small group of friends or a couple, and offers a great deal of privacy.
A freestanding chalet that is spread over two floors, the open plan living/dining space on the first floor offers a generous amount of space for four people, and, what’s more, the patio doors open out onto a private terrace with its own hot tub and delightful views of the Meribel ski resort.
Upstairs, there is one double en-suite bedroom and a twin bedroom that both attach onto a huge shared balcony, and a separate shower room.
In addition, Chalet Zebra’s décor is smart and contemporary. It will be particularly popular amongst the technology geeks out there because it features wall-mounted TVs in the bedrooms and a high-quality sound system in the living room.
More about Meribel
Nestled in a pine forest, Meribel is undoubtedly a beautiful ski resort, featuring an abundance of trees. A French ski village that has kept its tradition and atmosphere, Meribel offers elegance and charm.
While many French ski resorts expanded in the late 60s and 70s, and lost a little of their je-ne-sais-quoi, Meribel was, controversially, British owned until 2000, and therefore managed to hold on to what is loved about traditional French ski resorts.
As a result of Meribel’s traditional edge, the resort has spread outwards, rather than upwards, and therefore it can be difficult to find slopeside accommodation.
Most of the chalets are around a 12-15-minute walk from the centre, however, this is easily overcome by the regular free resort bus.
Chalet Zebra, however, is only 2 minutes away from piste (when you take the Merishuttle bus service) and a 6-minute walk away from the town centre, which puts it in a fabulous location of the resort!
Meribel is suitable for all levels of skiers. Beginners will love learning at the altiport with its magic carpet and gentle tree lined runs (the perfect beginner area for children!), while intermediates will have tons of options. Experts will be spoilt for choice too, with some amazing descents and off-piste runs from the top of the Mont Vallon, Saulire, Aiguille du Fruit.
Boarders and cross-country skiers are covered in Meribel too! Boarders will love the area with its drag lifts and great all-round terrain. The Moonride and moon park area will also make an exciting trip for snowboarders.
Finally, cross-country skiers have over 33km of prepared tracks at their disposal, with some wonderful scenery that really is like a magical route through a scenic forest.
