Claviere
Overview
Claviere is right on the border with France and is perfectly suited to families and skiers on a budget, offering great value access to the Milky Way ski area, as well as an impressive snow record. The ski area is mainly suited to intermediates and beginners.
Despite being a rather small town, it offers some seriously impressive links to Montgenèvre (in France) and the rest of the Milky Way ski area - Sestriere and Sauze d’Oulx. It also has a great snow record, tending to open a week or two earlier than the rest of the Italian Milky Way and closing correspondingly later. In addition, you will rarely have to queue for the lifts, nor see too many crowds on the slopes.
Visitors enjoy its quiet, relaxed ambience, and are ready to go again; though post-dinner options are severerly limited. It's not necessarily the most attractive resort however, and the main road to Montgenèvre and Briançon that divides it in two has an obvious impact.
Offslope/apres ski
This charming village has a relaxed feel with friendly residents and a small selection of apres ski bars.
