Mottaret

Overview
Meribel-Mottaret has been developed more sympathetically than a lot of purpose built resorts. It does lack the atmosphere of Meribel itself but makes up for this with the majority of the accommodation, which is mainly made up of apartment blocks situated on or close to the slopes. With great access to the whole of The Three Valleys on its doorstep, Mottaret can offer every standard of skier the chance to cover a large area. Experts will love the sheer extent of the area and the many opportunities to ski off piste. Intermediates can cruise to their heart’s content and beginners have their own ski school in Mottaret to get them on their way. Boarders will not have any problems here as most lifts are chairs or gondolas. Those wanting to cross-country ski will find a good track around Lake Tueda in the nature reserve at Mottaret.
The resort is spread out acoss two sides of facing slopes but ski access is superb. Situated up at 1700m means snow coverage is good all season and this is a truly central and convenient base from which to explore the full 600km of piste that the Three Valleys has to offer.
Offslope/apres ski
Head for the foot of the pistes at Mottaret for your après ski. A variety of bars including the popular and lively Rastro and Zig-Zag offer good value, and Rastro has a club that gets going later on. The downtown bar is a cellar bar with late night night club above Priviledge. Ruitor is a French style wine bar. L'Annexe shows live sports. The village has its own cinema. Down in Meribel there is the Olympic Centre with a swimming pool, spa, ice rink and climbing wall. Up at the Altiport you can take a pleasure flight in a small plane. On the mountain close by there is Ronny's above Meribel and a Folie Douce. (personally, we have never understood the attractive of this Alpine bar chain.......but we're old!).
