St Anton
Overview
St Anton is a superb resort both on and off the slopes. It is ideally suited for the adventurous and competent skier who likes to party hard! An elongated resort at the base of the valley, it has managed to keep much of its original character. The by pass means that through traffic is a thing of the past . It is partly pedestrianised and has a lively atmosphere throughout the day and well into the night. The Arlberg area is renowned for the heavy snow falls and so snow conditions are often very good and can last, with the help of good snow-making, well into April.
Although there are plenty of challenging runs closer to the resort, St Anton’s appeal for the experts is the huge off-piste opportunities. Guiding also offers the skier a chance to get to know the area in greater detail. Adventurous intermediates will also find plenty of challenges both on and off piste. There are not too many easy cruising pistes and the more timid skier may find this daunting and be better off staying in Lech or Ischgl. .
The Nasserein area is a better option for the beginner but there are limited possibilities once they wish to progress. There is a limited amount of cross country skiing but conditions tend to be quite good. Queues have improved in the last few seasons as new improved lifts and gondolas are being introduced.
Offslope/apres ski
There are excellent leisure and fitness facilities in the Arlberg-well. There is also a superb ice rink. Although the village is lively during the day, the shops are limited. It is easy, however, to get to other resorts on the local buses and it is possible to visit Innsbruck on the train. It is the bars that have the best reputation with lively après-ski being in full swing by about 3.00pm. Stop off on the way down the “Happy Valley” (the home run back to St Anton) at the Mooserwirt for some traditional Austrian apres ski with cheesy music and dancing on the tables always good fun Eating out is informal and there is a good selection of restaurants to suit all budgets.
St Anton is a ski party capital with apres in the Krazy Kanguruh, Mooserwirt, Sennhutte all be up slope bars for the earlier slot. over at Nasserein there is teh Fang House and Tom Dooleys. Then in town we have The Underground, Base camp, Scotty’s, Pub 37, Bodega Tapas, Kandahar. For late night then it’s The Piccadilly and Bar Cuba.
Overview
A lively “buzzing” resort with fantastic snow-cover, excellent skiing, and amazing nightlife. Superb intermediate to advanced skiing the Arlberg ski area is one of our personal favourites. Well worth taking advantage of the Lech area of the circuit for a day. Pick up the bus at St Anton in the morning (approx €10 return) and 40 mins later you can be skiing in Lech.
