Rail Ski Holidays to the French Alps
The Eurostar snow train is a calm and enjoyable way to reach the Alps. You’ll travel through the French countryside, gradually approaching the awe-inspiring French Alps.
At Lille, your connection is quick and straightforward. With around 20 minutes between trains, there’s no long wait — simply change platforms and continue your journey without disruption.
In most cases, your return date will be on a Sunday. All you need to do is arrive at the departure station and enjoy a seamless journey back home. Plus, the speed of your journey also means that you can benefit from an extra day on the slopes.
On Board the Eurostar Snow train Eurostar:
London to Lille
Travelling on the Eurostar is comfortable and straightforward. There’s generous space for luggage and winter sports equipment (just check allowances before you travel), plus free Wi-Fi and plug sockets at every seat.
You’ll also find a café onboard offering a selection of food and drinks. If you’re travelling in Eurostar Plus, meals are served directly to your seat for an even more relaxed journey.
Lille to the French Alps
After a quick platform change in Lille, your onward train continues into the Alps.
Onboard, you’ll have free Wi-Fi, plug sockets, and access to a snack bar. Eurostar Plus passengers can again enjoy at-seat service, making the journey feel effortless from start to finish.
Arrival in the Alps
The train stops at Chambéry, Albertville, Moûtiers–Salins–Brides-les-Bains, Aime-la-Plagne, and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Stops are brief, so it’s best to be ready to disembark.
Transfers are typically waiting at the station, with many resorts just a short drive away.
As passport checks are completed in the UK, there’s no need to queue on arrival — simply collect your luggage and continue your journey.
To make things even easier, equipment hire and lift passes for your final day can be included at no extra cost.

FAQs
Which ski resorts does the Eurostar go to?
The Eurostar gives you access to a range of resorts in France, including Tignes, Les Arcs, Les Menuires, Courchevel, Val d’Isère, and Val Thorens.
What is the closest ski resort in France to England?
For the smoothest transition from the Eurostar to the slopes, travellers should aim for Moûtiers or Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Those arriving at Moûtiers can reach Méribel in roughly 25 minutes, with Les Menuires also providing a straightforward connection.
However, the most efficient transit is found at Bourg-Saint-Maurice; a brief 7-minute funicular journey whisks skiers directly into Les Arcs, making it the quickest mountain transfer on the line.
Which French Alps ski resort is best for families?
There are plenty of resorts available in France, but the most popular options for families include Les Menuires for its ski schools and Courchevel for its activities. The latter offers accommodation at all price points and a world-famous Apres-Ski scene.
