Arosa
Overview
Arosa is a pleasant village that sets adjacent to a large wooden area and lake at a high altitde of 1800m. It has now been linked with Lenzerheide to offer a combined ski area under one lift pass of 225 KM of piste. Where once this was a good ski area for beginners and intermediates only, it is now perfectly suited to all abilities including off-piste experts. Arosa is a traditional base with a mixture of more modern architecture and is an ideal place to explore this now sizeable ski area. It offers a relaxed and family friendly environment for those not looking for the raucous apres ski of resorts such as Val d'Isere and Ischgl.
This is very much a resort of fur coats, Moncler, and sleigh rides. it attracts a great deal of wealthy families of generations looking to holiday together for a winter break rather than just skiing alone. The hotels range in standard but most tend to be at the smarter end of the spectrum offering additional facilities such as pools, spas, saunas, steamrooms, kneipp baths etc.
For cross country skiers arosa is ideal, the snow holds well as it is at altitude and ther are some 30km of piste.
Offslope/apres ski
With many cleared walks and a pedestrian lift pass enabling non skiers to get up the mountain, Arosa has more to offer than a lot of other high mountain resorts. A wonderful winter destination for non-skiers.
