Are Ski Holiday Resort

Overview

Are is Sweden's largest ski area, uniquely combining the best of both worlds - the amenities of a trendy bustling metropolis with the cosy feeling of a small Scandi village. No wonder it's routinely mentioned among the best ski resorts in the world.

The resort is unlike any other, having hosted more than 100 World Cup events including it's third Alpine Skiing World Championship in 2019, it has the slope quality and infrastructure you'd expect from a world class resort, as well as northern Europe's largest vertical. Despite this, it lacks the unattractive business of large Alpine resorts, instead life maintains a wonderfully relaxed pace. Coupled with its extensive beginner and intermediate terrain makes it an ideal resort for families.

The resort stretches for 10km along a frozen lake in a beautiful setting amongst the mountains and snow-covered forests. Åre has an amazing 185miles of cross-country trails, some of which are floodlit, and boarders are well catered for with good varied terrain plus the added benefit of three snow parks.

Off snow activities are plentiful, with ice sculpting, reindeer spotting hikes, and a vast range of culinary options, ranging from street food vendors right the way to the two Michelin starred Fäviken, run by renown Scandinavian chef Magnus Nilsson. Nighttime tours to see the aurora borealis iare another option when the weather allows.

The lively buzz attracts locals from Stockholm, while the nightlife offerings are more than enough to occupy a young crowd - expect to mingle with visitors from Norway popping over the border. It manages to be all things for all people in part because the resort is divided into five bases, each suited to different visitors.

Offslope/apres ski

Plenty to do with sleigh rides, tobogganing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and ice climbing. The après ski is lively with many bars, restaurants and live music venues.
