The bright and welcoming Hotel Diamant sits in a quiet position near the woods of Campitello, with jagged Dolomite peaks forming an iconic backdrop. Once you arrive here, kick-start your stay in the right way with a drink on the house.
Throughout its bedrooms, lounge and bar spaces, this place gets its authentic character from its classic Tyrolean alpine style. Extensive wooden furnishing, local artwork and touches of colour from the drapery and flower arrangements all give you that warm and cosy feeling – perfect to come back to after a day of bracing the mountain chill.
A great factor here is that getting around is sweet and simple. The nearest lift is the Col Rodella cable car, which is less than ten minutes’ walk away – and a similar amount of strolling will take you into the centre of Campitello di Fassa village. You might fancy checking out the local bars after enjoying your Half Board meal, or if you'd prefer a more relaxed, low-key end to the day, head to the hotel spa for some quality me-time – just note that spa access comes with an extra charge.
Location
Get the best of both worlds by staying somewhere small and traditional in the biggest ski area in the world. The seven towns and villages that make up Val di Fassa are part of the 1,220km Dolomiti Superski, and intermediates especially will love the seemingly endless reds and blues. And you can make a day of looping the famous 26km Sella Ronda circuit. If you’re a beginner, stick to a local lift pass and find your feet on the 110km of slopes around Val di Fassa itself. Wherever you ski, you’ll be surrounded by wow-worthy views of the Dolomite mountains, a UNESCO Word Heritage Site.
Canazei and neighbouring Campitello are the main towns, so if you’re looking for bars, restaurants and shops – and a lovely 3 or 4-star hotel – stay here. And Campitello also has the speediest access to the Sella Ronda. Or for somewhere quieter, pick the little villages of Pozza di Fassa or Mazzin. The culture’s a mix of Italy and Austria, so you can expect authentic hospitality, laid-back après and tasty food like pasta, polenta and dumplings.
