Hotel Christine, Campitello
- restaurant
- bar
- lounge
- sauna
- heated boot racks
If you’re looking for an authentic mountain stay, then the Christine will be right up your piste. It’s been run by the same family for generations, and from check-in to mealtimes, the service is second to none. Looks-wise, it’s classic alpine, with its timber cladding and shuttered windows.
You’re in Campitello, one of the main towns that makes up Val di Fassa, which means you’ve got plenty of bars and shops on hand. And there’s a ski bus stop a matter of metres away, so getting around the rest of the resort is nice and simple too – just grab a ticket from the hotel reception.
Once you’re done skiing for the day, you can give your legs some well-earned downtime in the hotel’s sauna. Afterwards, set yourself up for dinner in true Italian style with an aperitivo and some nibbles in the bar. And then it's on to dinner, which is all about simple, tasty dishes that’ll leave you feeling full – think stews with polenta and creamy risottos.
Location
Get the best of both worlds by staying somewhere small and traditional in the biggest ski area in the world. The seven towns and villages that make up Val di Fassa are part of the 1,220km Dolomiti Superski, and intermediates especially will love the seemingly endless reds and blues. And you can make a day of looping the famous 26km Sella Ronda circuit. If you’re a beginner, stick to a local lift pass and find your feet on the 110km of slopes around Val di Fassa itself. Wherever you ski, you’ll be surrounded by wow-worthy views of the Dolomite mountains, a UNESCO Word Heritage Site.
Canazei and neighbouring Campitello are the main towns, so if you’re looking for bars, restaurants and shops – and a lovely 3 or 4-star hotel – stay here. And Campitello also has the speediest access to the Sella Ronda. Or for somewhere quieter, pick the little villages of Pozza di Fassa or Mazzin. The culture’s a mix of Italy and Austria, so you can expect authentic hospitality, laid-back après and tasty food like pasta, polenta and dumplings.
