Les Contamines
Overview
The resort of Les Contamines is spread along the valley towards St Gervais and offers great views of Mont Blanc. It is well known for its snow reliability and higher altitude skiing. The traditional unspoilt charms of this mountain village are in total contrast with classy Megeve and sporty Chamonix. Les Contamines is underdeveloped and feels a little "backwards" but that is its attraction - unpretentious, friendly, wholesome. You will enjoy it's genuine rural feel, weekly street market and alpine architecture.
The skiing starts a shuttle bus ride from most of the lodging but it's a short, regular, and easy journey. This makes it a little more arduous for beginners but intermediates will love the uncrowded pistes and experts will revel in the untracked powder off-piste.
The resort doesn't have too many amenities as it is a quiet backwater but there are the standard ski resort bars, cafes, and gift shops.
Offslope/apres ski
Quiet apres ski but with a few bars offering live music and fun in the afternoon.
