Fernie Ski Holiday Resort

Overview

Fernie is a small resort that offers adventurous skiing - steep and deep. There is limited groomed cruising and this along with the misleading trail map & bad sign posting on the pistes means the skiing is not for the faint hearted. We would suggest that guiding is a good idea if you want to get the most out of your time here. The resort is improving it’s grooming and there is a good nursery area for beginners. The snow record is part of the reason this resort is popular and sometimes it is too much snow that causes problems. The mountain suits good boarders but there is quite a lot of traversing to be done. Beginners will love the ski school. nervous intermediates will hate the resort. Adventurous intermediates and upwards will all be in heaven here.

The accommodation at the base of the mountain is ski convenient and a bus ride takes you to the old town of Fernie just a couple of miles away. The "real" Fernie was a mining prospectors' town and has the feel of a backwater Canadaian working town with friendly locals, bars, and shops.

Offslope/apres ski

Having very limited mountain restaurants, most people come back to resort to eat. There are some reasonable places to eat & some lively bars with ‘The Griz’ having live music and on Fridays it is possible to have a barbeque laid on by the resort followed by a torchlight descent. Fernie was named after a prospector who discovered coal in the area and there is a walking historical tour, which creates an interesting off-mountain excursion.
