Obertauern Ski Holiday Resort
Overview
Obertauern is slightly unique for Austria in that it sits high up at the end of a pass at an elevation of 1740m. Think French ski resort with Austrian apres and you get the feel for this ski village. Most of the accommodation stock is of 4/5 star status and spreads along the valley pass for around a mile.
Obertauern offer snow sure skiing at altitude with a long season. It is mainly suited to well heeled beginners and intermediates but it lacks for expert skiers unless you are venturing off piste. The lift system is both swift and efficient guaranteeing quick access around the 100km of piste. The lift pass now includes the neighbouring resort of Mauterndorf (accessed by the free 20 minute ski bus) to extend the ski area to a decent 150km of piste and so drawing in more advanced skiers than in previous seasons.
Offslope/apres ski
Plenty to do for the committed apres skier typically jolly Austrian apres ski. Some excellent good fun bars and clubs with live music and dancing.
