Skiing in the USA is very different to skiing in Europe and is extremely exciting. Although skiing in the USA lacks the tradition and charm of European resorts (most stateside resorts are constructed in a formulaic fashion), it does offer fantastic snow conditions, great lift systems, fabulous deserted trails and a fantastic overall ski experience.
There are a number of ski resorts in the States, and Squaw Valley, located in California, is one of them. In fact, Squaw Valley is one of the largest ski resorts in the USA and hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics.
At Snowfinders, we recommend a combined trip of skiing in Squaw Valley and a San Francisco city break!
Skiing in Squaw Valley
Squaw valley offers a lively ski scene that is characterised by high mountains and outdoor adventure. Suitable for beginners, as well as intermediates and experts, Squaw Valley has something to suit everyone.
Whether you are hitting the slopes for the first time or a seasoned athlete, you’ll love Squaw Valley for its heavy snowfall and huge ski area.
Not only is Squaw Valley an absolute hit with pretty much all of its visitors, the resort has one of the longest ski seasons around!
What’s more, Squaw is situated close to Alpine Meadows (located between Truckee and Tahoe City). Therefore, if you wanted to try out some more picturesque skiing, you only need to take a short (15 minute) bus ride, and you’re there!
Therefore, skiing in the Squaw Valley allows you to have two ski resorts at your feet (or should we say ‘at your skis!’).
San Francisco
And after a week of Squaw Valley skiing, then why not take a city break to San Francisco? Whether you want to see the Golden Gate Bridge or discover San Francisco’s The Walt Disney Family Museum, San Francisco really does have a little bit of everything and will be enjoyable trip for many people, no matter who you are!
At Snowfinders, we highly recommend that you plan your San Francisco city break before you go on holiday, so that you can make the most of your time there and ensure you see all the things that you would like before you leave. After all, once you’ve started skiing, you’ll probably be too hyped up and excited to plan your city break. Therefore, planning your trip before you go will allow you to get the most from your holiday.
