Skiing on a budget
Here at Snowfinders, we know that skiing can prove to be an expensive holiday. Whether you are an individual, a couple or a family, skiing is not always the cheapest holiday option around.
That said, if you love skiing or just really want to give it a go, there are loads of budget ski holiday options that will mean you can have a great holiday (without having to sell an arm or a leg, re-mortgage your property or take out a loan!).
Whilst the rich and famous will chose resorts such as Courchevel 1850, St Moritz, lech, or Verbier as their winter playgrounds we mere mortals can opt for equally good skiing in far less financially challenging winter sports destinations. We have highlighted the following three resorts that are all fantastic options when it comes to skiing on a budget. What’s more, they’re all either half board or B&B…so no cooking and washing up; you’re on holiday after all!
Sauze d’OuIx, Italy.
Sauze d’OuIx enjoyed a reputation of Benidorm on snow 25 years ago but that reputation has long gone and the resort has been gentrified whilst still offering extensive skiing on uncrowded psites.
Because it is part of the Milky Way Network, and features a great combination of terrain (both open and woodland runs), it has an almost magical atmosphere that doesn’t fail to disappoint. What’s more, a resort that’s great for intermediates, the Milky Way lift pass covers Sansicario and Sestriere, and also further beyond to Claviere and Montgenèvre.
The magic continues into the night in Sauze d’OuIx, with the resort’s lively après-ski and bustling atmosphere and what’s more dining and drinkingoaptions are numerous and at a fraction of the price of its French competitors.
Soll, Austria
Popular amongst both beginner and intermediate skiers, Soll is part of the SkiWelt (one of Austria’s largest linked ski areas).
The slopes are extensive, cruising and never fail to disappoint! The après-ski is lively and the town is simply beautifu with friendly locals.
A perfect choice of resort when skiing on a budget!
Les Deux Alpes, France
With a good variety of slopes and a lively après-ski atmosphere, Les Deux Alpes is a busy, popular resort, that has grown along the valley floor over the last twenty years.
The size of the resort is interesting with wonderful off slope activities and events. From ice driving, to spa facilities, to open air concerts featuring some of the world’s top D.J.s this resort has a young and cool vibe.
There are some brilliant nursery slopes located near the accommodation in Les Deux Alpes, as well as a few fantastic blue and green runs at the top of the resort, which means that the resort is a great choice for beginner skiers. Stronger skiers will love the 200 plus km of piste with challenging reds and blacks and some of the world’s best off-piste is located at La Grave, which is connected to Les Deux Alpes at the peak.
For Snowboarders, Les Deux Alpes is a mecca (with one of the largest and most interesting terrain parks in the Alps!).
The budget lift pass in Les Deux Alpes also offers 2 days skiing in the nearby resorts of Serre Chevalier and Alpe d'Huez, with buses running twice a week. However, an alternative option would be to splash out €65 and take the helicopter.
