We’ve narrowed down some of the best small ski resorts and destinations in the world:

Mammoth Ski Resort, USA

Mammoth is one of the lesser known resorts in the USA. Its located in Eastern California and has over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain. With a 3,100 ft vertical and perfect snow conditions with an average of more than 400 inches of snow falling onto the summit, it is an all-round contender when it comes to skiing. The resort has fantastic facilities and a variety of après ski activities to enjoy by tourists as well as links to visit Disneyland. It has a long ski season from December to April and enjoys around 300 days of sunshine every year. We recommend staying at the Mammoth Mountain Inn as it is the only ski in ski out hotel which offers panoramic views overlooking the Californian mountains.

Duved, Sweden

Duved is located just a few kilometres west of Åre and is appreciated for its unique ski system. It is a fantastic place for cross-country and downhill skiing and the slopes are frequently used for alpine training courses and carving enthusiast. One of the best qualities about this location are the long season advantages and fluency in English speaking language. This location wins in terms of value for money and has everything you would need including a variety of bars, restaurants and shops. With its own train station and bus routes, it is easy to get to Åre in 10 minutes by bus. Åre has a vertical which is large for a European continent, offering spectacular views with 44 lifts to get you there. This friendly, picturesque location provides value for money whilst also offering many unique qualities. Hotel Renen is a particular favourite of ours for accommodation in Duved.

Serre Chevalier Ski Resort, France

Serre Chevalier one of the biggest ski resorts in France and Europe but is under rated by Brits. It is in fact a great area to ski with some wide open pistes and tree line skiing opportunities for all types of skier. With over 250kms of pisted runs with a selection of Green, Blue, Red and Black runs, the ski area is ideal for beginner to advanced skiers. The ski area has altitudes of up to 2,800 metres and a variety of surrounding villages to explore. Briancon town is full of traditional shops and restaurants and Villenueve is perfect for fun après ski activities. Our favourite hotel in the Serre Chevalier area is the Grand Aigle Hotel and Spa… the name needs no description.

Selva Ski resort, Italy

In the heart of the Dolomites, Selva Ski Resort is famous for its World cup ski races and breath-taking scenery. Also known as the South Tyrol, it has access to the Dolomites Superski area and the Sella Ronda which is a 26km circular tour with modern ski lift systems. With one of the best panoramic views in Europe, Selva combines both Italian and Austrian traditions with a range of après ski entertainment in Bierkellers and local pubs. With great value for money and a variety of opportunities for all levels of skier, Selva is a top contender on the list of hidden gem for skiing in Europe. Hotel Adler is our top rated accommodation, but if you’re on a budget, Hotel Pralong may be for you.
