Les Arcs 2000 Ski Holiday Resort
Overview
Arc 2000 is the highest of the Les Arcs villages and the majority of the accommodation is within a few minutes walk of the piste. Links to the other resorts are excellent with the regular shuttle buses and a first class lift system. Les Arcs 2000 was opened as a resort in 1979 to join the other altitudes of 1800 and 1600.The Club Med Arcs Extreme (that the resort was built around) has had excellent reports from Snowfinders clients and is one of the best priced Club Med properties that we offer. The Varet gondola is a quick way to get to the higher parts of the resort and there is also a new selection of six-seater chairlifts including Arcabulle, Bois de l'ors and Marmottes to quickly and efficiently ship you to the various parts of the mountain.
The ski area provides an excellent variety of big, open, wide runs especially immediately above Arc 2000. For when the weather demands there are some lovely wooded runs down to the villages of Peisey Vallandry and Villaroger.
There is an excellent snow park that has a good reputation, with a huge variety of green, red and black challenges. The resort is good for snowboarders, with few drag lifts. Over the years all the lifts have been gradually updated so virtually all critical lifts are modern, fast and comfortable.
For beginners the ESF and Spirit 1950 ski schools have an excellent reputation for a progressive up to date teaching method and for their ability to move people on to the next level of learning quickly.
Intermediates have a huge selection of pistes to get their teeth into and mileage hungry piste bashers will love the massive ski area that includes the La Plagne mountain.
Experts will find some great challenges both on and off piste. Most of the blacks in this area are "Natur" (not pisted) making for some seriously good mogul skiing.
Arc 2000 is well known for speed skiing. Built for the 1992 Olympics, the course is 2000 metres long with an additional 700 metres for stopping. The current world record in speed skiing was set in Les Arcs with the Italian speed skier Simone Origone reaching an amazing speed of 156.2 mph.
Offslope/apres ski
Arc 2000 offers a few bars and restaurants but there is not a great deal of choice. Some of the apartment and chalet blocks have swimming pools, and 1950 is to have a spa area open to all. Arc 2000 has a skating rink and Bourg St Maurice is easily accessible for a spot of shopping.
