The Arctic offers flat and generally gentle forested hills with occasional steeper terrain. An area ideally suited to cross country skiers, beginners and early intermediates looking to either start or develop their skiing ability.
Some resorts such as Ruka, Yllas, Levi and Iso-Syote open a small number of runs as early in the season as November. In midwinter the resorts operate only floodlit runs due to the sun not rising. Where Finland comes into its own is at the end of the season, from mid February onwards resorts are open fully. And British skiers looking for a ski holiday with a difference can take advantage of good late season snow. Most people will complement their time in the far North with Husky sled rides Skidooing and at Christmas time trips to see Santa Claus.
