Skiing Breaks in Canada
Canada combines the best that the USA has to offer in the snow reliability quality lift and accommodation standards, piste grooming and ski school with better scenery and cheaper prices.
In western Canada expect plenty of snow. In an average year they will receive better snow than the Alps, and with frequent fresh falls powder days are the norm rather than the exception. Charter flights to Calgary and Vancouver means that the prices are cheaper than you would expect to pay in the United States. The main resorts in Western Canada are Whistler, Banff and Lake Louise, with the smaller resorts of Fernie, Sun Peaks, Big White and Silver Star making up the best of the rest.
The Whistler ski area is hugely popular with British skiers with many choosing to return year after year. However a skiing holiday in Whistler is no longer a cheap experience with prices creeping up over the last few years. And with the 2010 Winter Olympics set for Whistler, prices will rise even further.
Banff and Lake Louise are an altogether different experience with prices far more affordable but with the same high levels of ski experience that we all now expect from North American resorts. Banff and Lake Louise are popular with first time visitors to Canada, mainly down to the value for money!!.
The most popular East coast resort is Tremblant which has a distinct Gallic flair with patisserie shops and cafes. Very popular with families due to the shorter flight time, the excellent reputation of the ski school, and virtually all ski in ski out accommodation Tremblant is a great place to take a ski holiday.
Accommodation in Canada is hotel, Condo and a small amount of chalet accommodation in Whistler. The hotels range from the luxurious 5 star Four Seasons resort in Whistler to a more humble 3 star accommodation in Banff and Lake Louise. All hotels are based on an accommodation only basis giving guests the option to eat in the hotel or visit one of the resorts many restaurants. Condos are popular for a skiing holiday as food can be prepared and eaten in your own accommodation thereby bringing costs down further.
The few catered chalets that exist in Whistler are really at a premium and early booking is imperative to get availability.
Skiing holidays in Canada remain popular with British skiers due to the North American ski experience of Deep Snow, High standards of service and great mountains.
