St Anton Ski Holiday Resort

Overview
St Anton is a superb resort both on and off the slopes. It is ideally suited for the adventurous and competent skier who likes to party hard! An elongated resort at the base of the valley, it has managed to keep much of its original character. It is partly traffic free and has a lively atmosphere throughout the day and well into the night. The Arlberg area is renowned for the heavy snow falls and so snow conditions are often very good and can last with the help of good snow-making well into April. Although there are plenty of challenging runs closer to the resort, St Anton’s appeal for the experts is the huge off-piste opportunities. Guiding also offers the skier a chance to get to know the area in greater detail. Adventurous intermediates will also find plenty of challenges both on and off piste. There are not too many easy cruising pistes and the more timid skier may find this daunting. The Nasserein area is a better option for the beginner but there are limited possibilities once they wish to progress. There is a limited amount of cross country skiing and conditions tend to be quite good. Queues have improved in the last few seasons as new improved lifts and gondolas are being introduced.
Positive
- Extensive and varied ski area
- Good snow
- Lively apres-ski
Negative
- Not suitable for beginners
- Some crowded pistes
- Accommodation not always ski convenient
- Can be rowdy in resort
Offslope/apres ski
There are excellent leisure and fitness facilities in the Wrlberg-well. There is also an excellent ice rink. Although the village is lively during the day, the shops are limited. It is easy, however to get to other resorts on the local buses and it is possible to visit Innsbruck on the train. It is the bars that have the best reputation with lively après-ski being in full swing by about 4.pm. Eating out is informal and there is a good selection of restaurants to suit all budgets.
