Avoriaz Ski Holiday Resort

Overview
Purpose built resort from the 60s that some find ugly, however the design of the buildings with wood and pitched roofs isn’t as bad as some of the concrete bunker style of design in other 1960s French “ski factories”. Love it or hate it the ability to ski to and from your accommodation makes it a popular choice with many British skiers. The resort has very few chalets and hotels with the majority of the accommodation being self-catered. There is a large choice for all levels of skiers but the nursery slopes can be crowded during holiday times. The intermediate is very well catered for with an abundance of reds and blues. For experts the “fearsome” Swiss wall is a must and skiing off the Swiss side of the Mossettes offers some serious challenges.
Positive
- Efficient lift system
- True ski in ski out resort
- Best snow in the Portes du Soleil
- Good mixed ability resort
Negative
- Some people find the resort ugly
- Little to do for non skiers
- Very few hotels or chalets
Offslope/apres ski
Not a resort for non-skiers as there is very little to do, and non-skiers cannot go on the chairlifts. The après ski is busy and centres around a few good bars and there is a couple of late night clubs
Our view
Purpose built, ski convenient, good all round resort.
